GSP Rescue New England is an all-volunteer organization committed to finding loving, permanent homes for German Shorthaired Pointers in need.
Meet the lovely Zoe! All Zoe wants is to be the center of attention. She would be just thrilled to be a family member in a home where she is the star! Zoe is a beautiful, 6 yr old, solid liver, spayed female. She has been lingering in foster care for several months now, just waiting for her forever family to come and meet her! She is an owner surrender from a local shelter. She was raised in a home with children and is excellent with people. She LOVES to play and fetch her tennis ball as well as swim. She is crate trained, housebroken, healthy and very smart! Again, Zoe would do best in a home as an only dog. She is is tip top physical shape and can go all day if you are looking for a dog that can take all the activity you can give her, Zoe is your girl! To read the rest of Zoe's story or to get more information on other available GSPs, view our Adoptables page. |

Carlo DeVito, a somewhat wild, somewhat irresponsible, entirely devoted dog lover and 29-year-old New York City aspiring book editor rescued an incorrigible German Shorthaired Pointer, who he named Exley, while living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. From bachelorhood to adulthood, from life in the big city to survival in the suburbs, DeVito not only learns devotion and patience, through Exley, but also that you can fall in love at first sight, that obedience does bring greater freedom, and that no one minds kindness or undivided attention. "It had been Exley's job to raise me," writes DeVito. "All that time we had been having fun, going for walks, getting into trouble, being companions and friends in some great adventure. And I had spent so much time teaching him to sit, stay, lie down, roll over. But all along, he had been teaching me. It is the child that makes the man, and in this case it was a dog. All along it had been the dog doing the teaching, not me. How do you like that? And I love him for it to this day and will for the rest of my life." Filled with engaging anecdotes, on-point quotes, and true reminders of how to live life the best way possible, 10 SECRETS MY DOG TAUGHT ME is a beautiful story of friendship, maturation, and love. Bobby's story is probably the epitome of why we do Rescue work. He is also a great representation of how wonderful it can be to rescue an older dog and give them the life they deserve for the rest of their years. Updated January 2007, here is his story: Rescue was contacted by a small, remote shelter in Maine in April of 2005. They had a GSP named Bobby who was then 9 years old. He had been boarded there while his owners went away, presumably on vacation. They then failed to pick him up after boarding, claiming they could no longer keep him. He was subsequently surrendered to the Shelter's care. This was back in 2003. (Read more about Bobby's story on our Happy Endings page...) |
