Happy Endings > Nick

Nick was surrendered to a New Hampshire shelter due to owner illness. He lingered there for almost three months before a volunteer couple from western Massachusetts stepped forward to foster him. The couple had recently lost their own GSP to illness and really wanted to help another GSP in need. They drove up to New Hampshire twice to meet him and introduce him to their own Labrador Retriever. Once they brought him home, the couple could not believe how wonderful Nick was. He lived to play fetch and did his best to tire out anyone he could with his Kong. He was so friendly and his house manners were wonderful. Things seemed perfect. Before long, Rescue got the call that the couple wished to adopt Nick as their own.

It was not long afterwards that Nick began to show signs of separation anxiety. His foster mom and dad worked diligently with us to try and ease his symptoms. They hired a trainer and even considered medications. It was a long road with a lot of bumps, but they put a lot of care and effort into making things work. In the end, their perseverance paid off.

With the help of extended family, they were able to develop techniques that helped ease Nick's anxiety when his people were away at work. Nick is such a lucky boy to have been taken under the wing of such a loving family who was willing to invest in him and show him total commitment. Nick is a perfect example of how rewarding working with a Rescue dog can be!
