Happy Endings > Katie

Katie was given up by her original owner due to illness. She was passed through homes of family members and friends before being surrendered to New England GSP Rescue in December '07. It appeared that she was about eight years old and had been significantly neglected in the recent past, provided with very little stimulation, let alone any GSP appropriate exercise. She was fostered in Rhode Island where her health issues were addressed and needed weight gained. On Valentines Day a couple, who had previously been owned by two GSPs, adopted Katie and brought her home to snow bound Maine.

The first several weeks were trying, as Katie was very apprehensive about her new surroundings (three feet of snow and sub zero temperatures), strangers (which encompassed everyone) and her new canine companion, Lucy, a six year old Shepard\Husky mix. Slowly her physical and mental health improved, and when warm weather arrived, with the freedom to fully explore her new environs, she started to blossom into the loving and goofy dog she is today. Katie has now been through basic obedience training, a six week agility course, and is free to roam inside of Invisible Fencing. That has all contributed to a rise in her self confidence and calming of her previous hyper sensitivities. Her next adventures will include learning to dive off the dock and swim in the lake, and run free on E collar. As with all GSPs, Katie is a warm and loving canine companion that loves being with her family, she has added a nice bass tone to the family snoring chorus.
